Asian Turkey Burgers

As we all know, I love Asian food, so I try to spice up some of my normal recipes with a hint of Asian flavor. This recipe is SO good and super easy to make (and freezes well!) You'll need the ingredients below:

- a package of ground turkey

- a sweet potato

- a shallot

- 2 cloves of garlic

- fresh ginger

- cilantro

- 1 tbsp of Mayo

- 1 1/2 tbsp of Sriracha

- 1/2 tbsp of sesame oil

- 1/2 tbsp of soy sauce

Start off by cutting your sweet potato into a fry-like shape and place in cool water for about an hour. Soaking the potatoes will draw out the starch and allow them to get crispy in the oven! (#healthy)

While the potatoes soak, go ahead and start on the turkey burgers. Chop the shallot (a milder version of a red onion) and then grate about 1 tbsp of garlic and ginger. Quick Tip #1: Keep your ginger root in the freezer for longer use! Next, use your scissors to snip some cilantro.

After the potatoes are finished soaking, pat dry with a towel and place on a baking sheet. Toss in olive oil, salt & pepper and garlic powder before spreading them out on the sheet making sure they they don't touch. Bake in the oven 400 for 30-35 minutes.

Here is where things get messy! Place the package of ground turkey into a large mixing bowl. Add in the fresh ingredients and then add the soy, Sriracha, mayo and sesame oil. Form into small patties for burgers. Preheat a large cast iron skillet before adding the burgers. You'll want to hear a nice sizzle when the meat touches the skillet. Try to be patient at this stage and let the burgers cook about 3-4 minutes on one side (depending on thickness) before flipping to the other. If you are constantly flipping back and forth the meat won't cook as well and you risk the burgers falling apart. Quick Tip #2: If the meat seems like its sticking, it isn't ready to flip - it will release from the pan when it's ready!

The last thing I do while the fries and burgers are cooking is make the spicy aioli. I use this to top the burgers and to dip the fries in (SO yummy, not so much healthy)! I use about 2 tbsp of mayo and 1 tbsp of Sriracha **per person** This will make more than enough for dipping and to dress the burger. Enjoy!
