Hoagie Dip

Looking for the perfect dip or appetizer to take to a tailgate? Tired of cream cheese, cheese and more cheese (....no but go with me)? Try this Hoagie Dip to bring some variety to your next party! It is a great alternative to a hot dip and has a little more substance than most tailgate items.

My favorite sandwich is an Italian, so that's what I based this off, however, this can be made to fit any sandwich style you wish. I think it would also be great with turkey, ham and roast beef ! For my Italian version you'll need:

- 1 lb of deli meat total (your choice)

- 1/4 lb Hard Salami

- 1/4 lb Pepperoni

- 1/4 lb Ham

- 1/4 lb of Soppressata (prosciutto would also be great!)

- 1/4 lb Provolone cheese

- 1 Onion

- Banana Peppers

- Tomatoes

- Shredded Lettuce

- Bread rounds

- Bread bowl (optional)

Dressing:

- Mayo

- Red Wine Vinegar

- Salt & Pepper

- Dried Oregano

- Dried Basil

- Olive Oil

Dice the onion, tomatoes and banana peppers and place in large mixing bowl. Slice the meat and cheeses into bite sized pieces and add to the bowl. Quick tip: I usually stack several pieces at a time to speed things up and then stir them around with fork to them in the bowl to get them to unstack.

In another small mixing bowl you'll make the dressing. Mix 1/2 cup of mayo, 1 tbsp of olive oil and 1 tbsp of red wine vinegar together. Next, add 1 tsp of the dried basil, dried oregano, salt and pepper.

Combine all the ingredients into the bowl minus the shredded lettuce (it gets soggy if it sits for too long) and refrigerate until ready to serve.

I got a loaf of bread to serve the dip in, so I cut a hole in the top and scooped out the inside so my dip would fit inside. Once ready to serve add the shredded lettuce and place inside the bread bowl. Serve with sliced baguettes - Enjoy!
